TheWhat Do You Do Deep Dive

It’s hard to read the label when you’re inside the jar.

Which is why so many smart people can't explain their own work. There's nothing wrong with you. You're just standing too close to see it.

This is 90 minutes of me standing outside the jar, reading the label back to you until we find the version that's actually right.

$395, paid up front.

Every single client I work with feels meh about their introduction. Sometimes it feels incomplete, like they can't get all the good stuff in there. Sometimes it just doesn't roll off their tongue. Sometimes it's misleading in a way they can't quite untangle.

This deep dive is designed with one thing in mind: finally nailing an answer. I'm good at teasing out the language that puts you where you want to be, in words that feel alive and natural coming out of your mouth.

It's for you if you have a reason to get this right soon. An opportunity coming up, a networking thing, an interview, a conference, a website people are about to land on. Or honestly, just the ordinary exhaustion of fumbling the question one more time.

You don't have to own a business for this to work. You have to have work you're trying to explain.

How it goes

  1. You fill out your intake.

It arrives automatically after you book. A few questions to tease out the context, the challenges, and the key ingredients of your answer to the dreaded "what do you do." Once you send it back, I read it closely so I'm up to speed before we start.

  2. We dig in together.

90 minutes, one on one. I ask the questions that get underneath things, tell you what I'm actually hearing, and give you honest, specific feedback. People are usually surprised how much ground we cover.

  3. You get it in writing.

I take intense notes the whole time. Afterward I send you two or three versions of your answer, built from your own words, plus whatever else surfaced that you'll want later.

  4. You practice, if you want to.

A rhythm and practice that you can actually keep. That won’t make you feel guilty or get dropped as soon as life get’s busy. Something to build on and evolve.

Two days before a big work conference with 100 eligible prospects, I could feel myself dreading the part where I have to tell them about my business. I had a different (and not very compelling) answer every time. I spent one hour on the phone with Lexie. She reignited what I love about my work and how strongly I believe in the transformation my clients get from working with me. We polished a powerful 30 second pitch, 2 sentences that confidently and succinctly tell people what I actually do and why it matters. I feel ready to make the most of this conference. THANK YOU!

A few questions people ask

Is 90 minutes really enough?
For this one question, usually yes. The intake does a lot of the work before we sit down, and I've done this enough times to know where to dig. If it turns out the answer isn't the whole problem, I'll tell you, and The Groundwork is there.

Do I need to own a business?
No. Plenty of people come to me positioning themselves for something else: a job change, a promotion, a board seat, a LinkedIn presence they've been avoiding for three years.

What if I want to keep going?
The Deep Dive is the first session of The Groundwork. If you decide to continue, you pick up at session two and your Deep Dive fee comes off what you pay.

You already know what you do. You just need the words for it.

Pay and book your first session right here, I’m looking forward to working together.
